Ages 9 - 13 years (Fourth - Seventh
Grades).......................
Active, self-directed, non-competitive learning
continues at the Elementary Program level, where classes span three
age/grade levels. Lower Elementary is open to grades 1-3, and Upper
Elementary encompasses grades 4-6. A more structured academic curriculum
covers a wide range of interests and abilities up through the oldest and
most accelerated students in the class. Assessment and testing are “built
into” daily lessons. Standardized testing is introduced in 3rd grade. To
reach their full potential, students gain an integrated knowledge of science
and technology, history, the arts, mathematics, literature, economics,
politics, and world culture. They also acquire sound skills in writing and
research, critical reading and thinking, and effective work habits. Not
least of all, children learn to be responsible, respectful members of their
classroom families and to celebrate both individual and group
accomplishment.
