Head Teachers are either certified through the American Montessori Society (AMS) or are working toward their AMS certification. Teacher training is an intensive post-graduate program followed by a year-long internship that includes professional supervision and evaluation. Teachers are certified at a level appropriate to the age of the children they teach: Infants and Toddlers, 3-6 years, 6-9 years, 9-12 years or 12-15 years. Primary and Elementary Program teachers also hold Private Academic School certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Toddler staff is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. All staff has professional experience in non-Montessori settings. Assistant Teachers, as well as specialist teachers in music, foreign language, physical education, and art, are familiar with Montessori philosophy and methodology and visit and observe other Montessori schools as part of their professional development.
