to play Tudor joust. Jousting was a sport played by lords and knights. Large amounts of money were bet on these jousts. Most knights were equipped with a lance, a one handed sword, and a rondel (dagger). When one knight is knocked off their horse, the opposing knight is declared the winner of the round. Most rounds were best two out of three or it could be longer. The tournaments started in France.
There were many famous knights who were involved in these tournaments. Lord Henry was a knight and also accused in 1467 when nobles said there were spikes on Henry’s horse which caused his opponent’s horse to collapse to the ground. Another famous knight who would have been seen jousting was Sir Lancelot .
Some knights can become wounded very badly or dead. Most peasants were killed when the horses got out of control in the stable. They were armor so the won’t get hurt so bad. The armor was made steel plate which weighed about 50 pounds. Mostly at jousts tournaments the king and queen will witness the brutal sport. The tournaments were the highlights of the castle. Tournaments ended in the in the 17th century because of feudalism (medieval social system) . Most knights met a combined speed of 60 mph. All lances were measured so each lance was the same size as the other. So most jousts were fair except Lord Henry’s joust. Most crowds came from all over the world.
